The St Raphael’s Catholic school mandatory BYODD (Bring Your Own Designated Device) program applies to Years 8-10. The program requires secondary students in Years 8-10 to own and use their own Chromebooks for learning, both at school and at home. Students may only use a Chromebook, which means that Windows, Mac laptops, iPads or other tablets are not suitable for Years 7 to 10. The use of chromebooks helps ensure uniform learning opportunities, software delivery, duty of care and equitable access to national testing.

For those Year 8-10 students who do not already have their own Chromebook device, (or who need a replacement) a purchase portal is available through JB HiFi Education enabling parents to order their child’s device and access educational pricing www.jbeducation.com.au/byod.The School Code is RCSCBYOD. The portal will guide parents through the purchase process, and offer additional options such as extended warranty and insurance.

From 2024, all students entering Year 7 will be provided with their designated Take Home Device (Chromebook) for use at school and at home. Further information regarding this program, and it’s user policy is distributed to Year 7 families as required, and available for viewing here.

Students in Years 11-12 are permitted to bring a laptop or chromebook which fits within a boundary of specifications that make it appropriate to students’ needs and allows it to be connected to the school network.

A limited number of devices are available via a refundable loan program, to those families experiencing financial hardship.
